Health Connection
Health Connection was launched in early 2006 to increase North American employee and retiree personal health awareness and engagement, and to help ensure the continued viability of the company’s employee benefit plans. Health Connection programs offer resources, information and support for employees, retirees and their families to stay healthy, make healthy lifestyle choices, and be better consumers of health care. The objective is to identify and diminish root causes that contribute to poor health and serious diseases, such as depression and unmanaged stress, excess weight, high blood pressure, tobacco use and inactivity.
Many efforts are made to engage Weyerhaeuser people in improving their health, both companywide and at the location level. More than 80 percent of our locations have a certified work site health and wellness coordinator and/or designated wellness team in place to support on-site activities. Health Connection programs include:
Employees Engaged in Health Programs
In 2007, nearly 3,500 U.S. employees took advantage of on-site health screenings. More than 11,000 U.S. employees, spouses or qualified domestic partners received flu immunizations at no cost through the Weyerhaeuser-sponsored program. Over 11,000 U.S. employees have completed a personal health assessment online. In 2008, the company began enhancing and expanding the availability of Health Connection offerings to employees company-wide.
Additionally, the recent introduction of the Weyerhaeuser Employee Health Scorecard provides worksite health and wellness coordinators and other stakeholders with action planning tools and intervention resources to effectively target specific health improvement opportunities among employees at each location. Overall, the goal is to enhance employee health awareness and engagement through increased use of primary medical care and preventive services, improved compliance with prescribed treatment regimens, better management of chronic conditions, and increased participation in Health Connection programs.
